How to play

Place your five ships on your 10x10 grid (rotate to change direction). Then take turns firing at the computer grid by clicking a cell. A "hit" keeps the same turn cadence, a "miss" passes the turn. First to sink every opposing ship wins.

Tips & strategy

When hunting, alternate squares like a checkerboard — the smallest ship covers two cells, so there is no point firing on two adjacent misses. After a hit, trace up-down-left-right until you sink the ship before looking elsewhere.

Good for

  • Classic hidden-information strategy.
  • Safe intro for kids to turn-based board games.
  • Satisfying deduction, not just guesswork.

Frequently asked questions

Can ships touch?

Yes — ships may share edges in this implementation, which mirrors the classic paper version. They may not overlap.

Is the AI fair?

Yes. The AI never peeks at your grid. It uses a "hunt and target" strategy: random-ish checkerboard hunting until it hits, then tracing the ship.
