How to play

Pick Session: Practice (endless random sentences) or Today’s five (five fixed challenges per London calendar day — the same list for everyone until midnight UK time). Pick an age band and play style (mix, tiles only, or pick-a-word). Press Next sentence. Either tap shuffled letter tiles into the dashed boxes, or tap word buttons. Hear sentence uses your browser’s speech (British voice when available). Tap Check answer; hints appear after mistakes. Every triple correct answer in a row earns a star (saved on this device). Your streak counts as your best score.

Tips & strategy

Read the whole sentence aloud (or use Hear sentence). For homophones, ask whether the word means possession, a place, or a short form of “they are” / “you are” / “it is”. On tile rounds, scan for double letters — you only have exactly the letters you need.

Good for

  • Key Stage 1–2 style practice with UK spellings (colour, organise, centre).
  • Short daily routine: Today’s five loads the same mixed questions for the class or family.
  • Works offline in the browser after the first load of the word list.

Frequently asked questions

How does Today’s five pick sentences?

The game uses the UK (London) calendar date, your age-band filter, and play style to seed a repeatable shuffle of five items from the JSON pack — so classmates get the same set on the same day.

Is this only British English?

Yes — answers and spellings follow UK norms (for example organise, colour). If you expand the word list yourself, keep the JSON fields consistent with that style.

Where do the sentences come from?

Shipped as a curated JSON pack in games/data so you can edit or add sentences without rebuilding the JavaScript file. Future versions might import curated open word lists separately.

Why might Hear sentence sound American?

Your device chooses a speech voice. The game asks for an English (GB) voice when the browser exposes one; otherwise it falls back to another English voice.
